Mortgage Banker
Ernie has a rich history of experience in business and financing. He began his professional career with the State of Missouri as Budget Specialist, then quickly moved into a Management Specialist position. Taking a break from the state, he held the position of Associate Dean for the Online Campus at Columbia College, where he was responsible for a $50m plus budget. While the work was satisfying, to devote more time to his family, he returned to a position at the State of Missouri. This freed up his weekends and Ernie retired in October of 2020 from the state as a Planning & Grants Manager. Ernie’s varied work experiences have always been in contracts, business, and finance. He continues to teach these subjects online as an adjunct college instructor at Columbia College.
Ernie is a true Missouri native. His great grandparents and grandparents were born and raised in the Ashland area. Ernie’s father served in the Navy, which lead the family to move to locations all over the U.S when he was young. When his father left the Navy after serving in Vietnam, the family settled back in Centralia, MO. After graduating from high school, Ernie attended the University of Missouri – Columbia receiving his bachelor’s degree in psychology, and his master’s degree in Public Administration, with a focus on accounting.
Settling down in Ashland, MO Ernie became highly engaged with doing something he feels passionate about, namely community service. He served in numerous positions; as the Ashland Optimists President, Southern Boone Learning Garden Chair, Planning & Zoning Chair, a board member with Helping Hands of Southern Boone, the Sons of the American Legion Commander, as well as Vice-Chair for the Ashland Park Board. He started up three local events in Ashland which continue to this day; the annual fishing derby, a bicycle refurbishing program where refurbished bikes are donated to foster children for Christmas, and the annual “Halloween Spooktacular” which provides a safe and enjoyable event for children of the community. His greatest fulfillment in life has come from his faith, family, and helping his community.
It was this philosophy that led him to USA Mortgage. After retiring from the state, he was approached by Carrie Mertensmeyer, branch manager at USA Mortgage-Ashland, who shared with him the difference he could make in people’s lives by providing them with the home financing that met their needs. As a further incentive for Ernie to join the company, USA Mortgage is heavily involved in local community sponsorships and gives back to worthy causes. Since joining USA Mortgage in October of 2020, his office has helped sponsor holiday events, such as the first-ever Ashland “Fire in the Sky” fireworks celebration, fundraisers for the community swim pool, and other charitable organizations. Using his financial and entrepreneurial knowledge to help buyers secure financing for homes, Ernie has found a great source of personal satisfaction that allows him to succeed in a career that truly benefits his community.
